Do this ONE single thing to make your networking more effective.

Next time you’re standing alone at a business event, invite a stranger to join you. Even if you’re out of ‘extrovert points’ that day. Even if you’re worried they’ll say no.
What’s the worst that could happen? Well, yes, they could say ‘hello’ back and then two seconds later excuse themselves to join their friends and laugh behind your back saying how much of a lonely loser you are. But that’s pretty unlikely.
Most people are polite, and even if they are with other people or are waiting for their friends will still talk to you for a moment or two. And that’s got to be better than sipping a drink and smiling maniacally to anyone who looks your way.
You never know, that next invitation to chat might land you with some more work, or simply an engaging few minutes. Either way, it’s a win-win.
